The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ What do they quarrel about? 1 About the Great News 2 About which they are in disagreement. 3 By no means! anon they shall know. 4 Surely, they will soon find out the truth! 5 HAVE WE NOT made the earth a resting-place [for you,] 6 and the mountains [its] pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 And made your sleep [a means for] rest 9 The night a covering, 10 and made the day for earning a livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven firmaments, 12 And made [therein] a burning lamp 13 and have sent down from the clouds, pouring rain 14 That We may produce therewith corn and vegetables, 15 And gardens of luxurious growth? 16 Verily the Day of Decision is a time appointed. 17 The day the trumpet blast is sounded you will come in hordes; 18 And the heaven will have been opened, and it will have become doors. 19 And the mountains shall be moved off so that they shall remain a mere semblance. 20 Hell will lie in wait (for its prey). 21 For the transgressors a place of destination: 22 there, they shall live for ages, 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink. 24 Save scalding water and corruption. 25 A fitting recompense (for them). 26 They indeed hoped not for a reckoning, 27 And they denied Our signs to the extreme. 28 but We have recorded everything in a Book. 29 [And so We shall say:] "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
