The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ What are they asking each other about? 1 (Is it) of the great announcement 2 About which they differ? 3 No indeed; soon will they come to know; 4 Again, by no means! anon they shall know. 5 Have We not made the earth as a wide expanse, 6 and the mountains as pegs (to anchor the earth)? 7 We created you in pairs, 8 and We appointed your sleep for a rest; 9 The night a covering, 10 And made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven firmaments, 12 and We appointed a blazing lamp 13 and sent down heavy rains from the clouds 14 That We may bring forth thereby corn and herbs, 15 And gardens dense and luxuriant. 16 Surely the day of decision is (a day) appointed: 17 On that day the trumpet will be sounded and you will come (to Us) in huge groups. 18 And the heaven is opened and will become gateways 19 And the mountains shall be moved off so that they shall remain a mere semblance. 20 [On that Day,] verily, hell will lie in wait [for those who deny the truth] 21 A place of resort for the inordinate, 22 therein they shall abide for ages, 23 They will not feel cold nor taste any drink 24 save boiling water and pus 25 An appropriate recompense. 26 Indeed they had no fear of the account. 27 and they rejected outright Our signs; 28 And We have kept recorded everything in a Book, accounted for. 29 [And so We shall say:] "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
