The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Of what do they question one another? 1 About the great tidings! 2 That over which they are in disagreement. 3 Nay! they shall soon come to know 4 Again surely yes, they will soon come to know! 5 HAVE WE NOT made the earth a resting-place [for you,] 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 And (have We not) created you in pairs, 8 and gave you repose in sleep, 9 And made the night as a covering, 10 And made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 We have built above you seven mighty heavens, 12 and We have set therein a glowing lamp. 13 and have sent down from the clouds, pouring rain 14 to make the seeds, plants, 15 And gardens of thick foliage. 16 The Day of Judgment will certainly be the final appointment. 17 The day the trumpet blast is sounded you will come in hordes; 18 And the heaven will have been opened, and it will have become doors. 19 And the mountains shall be moved off so that they shall remain a mere semblance. 20 Surely, Hell lies in wait, 21 For the exorbitant a receptacle. 22 They will remain in it for ages. 23 Neither coolness shall they taste therein nor any [thirst-quenching] drink 24 Except scalding water and [foul] purulence - 25 a meet requital [for their sins]! 26 For verily, they used not to look for a reckoning. 27 and they rejected outright Our signs; 28 However, We have recorded everything in a book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
