The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ Of what ask they? 1 About the great event, 2 on which they [so utterly] disagree. 3 (What they think is certainly despicable!). They will soon come to know (the reality). 4 Nay! Nay! they shall soon know. 5 Have We not made the earth as a place to rest 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 And made your sleep a rest. 9 The night a covering, 10 And have appointed the day for livelihood. 11 And We made above you seven strong ones, 12 (the sun) as a shining torch 13 And sent down, from the rain clouds, pouring water 14 That We may produce from it grain and vegetation, 15 and gardens dense with follage. 16 Surely a time is fixed for the Day of Judgement. 17 the Day when the trumpet [of resurrection] is sounded and you all come forward in multitudes; 18 and when the skies are opened and become [as wide-flung] gates; 19 and the mountains shall be made to vanish, as if they had been a mirage. 20 Behold, Gehenna has become an ambush, 21 The rebels' abode, 22 They will abide therein for ages. 23 tasting neither coolness nor any drink 24 save boiling water and pus 25 a fitting requital, 26 For that they used not to fear any account (for their deeds), 27 And called Our communications a lie, giving the lie (to the truth). 28 And everything We have recorded in a book. 29 "So taste ye (the fruits of your deeds); for no increase shall We grant you, except in Punishment." 30
