The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 About the awesome tidings [of resurrection] 2 About which they differ? 3 No indeed; soon will they come to know; 4 Again, indeed, they shall know! 5 Have We not made the earth a resting place? 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 And it is We who created you in pairs. 8 And made sleep for you to rest, 9 The night a covering, 10 And have appointed the day for livelihood. 11 And (have We not) built over you the seven firmaments, 12 And have appointed a dazzling lamp, 13 and have sent down out of the rainclouds water cascading 14 So that We bring forth thereby corn and vegetation. 15 And gardens of thick growth. 16 Verily the Day of Decision is a time appointed. 17 A day when the trumpet is blown and ye come in multitudes, 18 And the heaven will be opened – it therefore becomes like gates. 19 The mountains put in motion turning into a mirage. 20 Behold, Gehenna has become an ambush, 21 A home for the rebellious. 22 They will remain in it for ages. 23 tasting neither coolness nor any drink 24 except boiling water and pus, 25 Reward proportioned (to their evil deeds). 26 They did not expect such a Judgment 27 having given the lie to Our messages one and all: 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 So taste (the fruit of what you sowed), for We shall add nothing but torment, 30
