The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 Concerning the Great News, 2 That over which they are in disagreement. 3 Indeed, they shall know! 4 Again surely yes, they will soon come to know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a bed, 6 and raised the mountains like supporting poles? 7 And it is We who created you in pairs. 8 and gave you repose in sleep, 9 and made the night a covering, 10 And We have made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven firmaments, 12 And have made (therein) a shinning lamp (sun). 13 And We send down from the clouds water pouring forth abundantly, 14 so that We may bring forth thereby grain and a variety of plants, 15 And gardens of luxurious growth? 16 Surely, the Day of Judgement has an appointed time. 17 On that day the trumpet will be sounded and you will come (to Us) in huge groups. 18 The heavens will have openings like doors. 19 and when the mountains are made to vanish as if they had been a mirage. 20 Truly Hell is as a place of ambush, 21 A place of resort for the inordinate, 22 Where they will remain for aeons, 23 they shall taste in it no coolness, nor any pleasant drink 24 only burning despair and ice-cold darkness: 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 For verily, they used not to look for a reckoning. 27 and they rejected outright Our signs; 28 but We have recorded everything in a Book. 29 Taste therefore. We shall not increase you in aught but torment. 30

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
