The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ What are they asking (one another)? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 concerning which they are in disagreement! 3 No indeed; they shall soon know! 4 Nay, again, they will come to know! 5 Did We not make the earth a bed? 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 And have made your sleep as a thing for rest. 9 And have made the night as a covering (through its darkness), 10 And have appointed the day for livelihood. 11 And built seven strong roofs above you. 12 And placed a lamp therein brightly burning. 13 And do We not send down from the clouds water in abundance, 14 So that We bring forth thereby corn and vegetation. 15 and gardens luxuriant. 16 Surely the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 It is a Day whereon the trumpet will be blown, and ye will come in multitudes. 18 and when the sky shall be opened up and will become all doors; 19 And the mountains shall be moved off so that they shall remain a mere semblance. 20 Behold, Gehenna has become an ambush, 21 a resort for the rebellious; 22 They will tarry therein for ages. 23 tasting therein neither coolness nor any drink 24 save boiling water and a stinking fluid -- 25 An appropriate recompense. 26 Indeed, they did not hope for a Reckoning, 27 having given the lie to Our messages one and all: 28 However, We have recorded everything in a book. 29 So taste (the fruit of your deeds). We shall only increase your torment. 30
