The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ What do they quarrel about? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 concerning which they are in disagreement! 3 (What they think is certainly despicable!). They will soon come to know (the reality). 4 Again, by no means! anon they shall know. 5 Have We not made the earth as a bed, 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs 8 and We made your sleep a rest, 9 And have appointed the night as a cloak, 10 And have made the day for livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven firmaments, 12 And have made (therein) a shinning lamp (sun). 13 And do We not send down from the clouds water in abundance, 14 That We may produce therewith corn and vegetables, 15 And dense gardens. 16 Surely the day of decision is (a day) appointed: 17 the Day that the Horn is blown, and you shall come in crowds 18 and when the skies are opened and become [as wide-flung] gates; 19 And the mountains shall vanish, as if they were a mirage. 20 Surely, Hell lies in wait, 21 A place of resort for the inordinate, 22 They will dwell therein for ages. 23 They will not feel cold nor taste any drink 24 Except boiling water and benumbing cold: 25 An appropriate recompense. 26 Surely they feared not the account, 27 And they denied Our signs to the extreme. 28 We have kept account of everything in a book. 29 So taste (the fruit of what you sowed), for We shall add nothing but torment, 30
