The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Of what do they ask one another? 1 About the Great News 2 on which they [so utterly] disagree. 3 Indeed they will come to know soon; 4 Again, by no means! anon they shall know. 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs, 8 and We have made your sleep [a symbol of] death 9 The night a covering, 10 and We made the day for a livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 and We appointed a blazing lamp 13 and have sent down out of the rainclouds water cascading 14 that We may bring forth with it grain, plants 15 And gardens of entwined growth. 16 VERILY, the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false] has indeed its appointed time: 17 A day when the trumpet is blown and ye come in multitudes, 18 And the heaven will be opened it therefore becomes like gates. 19 And the mountains will be moved they will therefore become like mirages. 20 Indeed, Gehenna (Hell) has become an ambush, 21 For the transgressors, a place of return, 22 Living therein for ages. 23 tasting neither coolness nor any drink 24 But boiling and intensely cold water, 25 as a fitting recompense for their deeds. 26 They were those who did not expect a reckoning, 27 and they rejected outright Our signs; 28 However, We have recorded everything in a book. 29 So taste! for We will not add to you aught but chastisement. 30
