The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Of what ask they? 1 About the great event, 2 whereupon they are at variance? 3 Nay, they will come to know! 4 Again, no indeed; they shall soon know! 5 Have We not made the earth an even expanse? 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 And it is We who created you in pairs. 8 And have appointed your sleep for repose, 9 The night a covering, 10 and the day as time for you to make a living? 11 And We built above you seven strong ones, 12 And We made a shining lamp, 13 And sent down, from the rain clouds, pouring water 14 Thereby to produce grain and plant, 15 and gardens dense with foliage. 16 Surely the day of decision is (a day) appointed: 17 A day when the trumpet is blown and ye come in multitudes, 18 And the heaven will have been opened, and it will have become doors. 19 And the mountains will be moved they will therefore become like mirages. 20 Truly, Hell is a place of ambush, 21 For the transgressors a place of destination: 22 Where they will remain for aeons, 23 Neither coolness shall they taste therein nor any [thirst-quenching] drink 24 except boiling water and pus, 25 , A fitting reward. 26 They were those who did not expect a reckoning, 27 But they belied Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, and that which Our Prophet (Peace be upon him) brought) completely. 28 And all things have We preserved on record. 29 Therefore taste it now We shall not increase anything for you except the punishment. 30
