The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ What are they asking each other about? 1 They quarrel about the great news 2 About which they are in disagreement. 3 Indeed, they shall know! 4 Again, no indeed; they shall soon know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 and made your sleep a means of repose, 9 and the night as a cover, 10 And have appointed the day for livelihood. 11 We raised over you several secure (skies), 12 And made [therein] a burning lamp 13 And We have sent down from the rain-clouds water plenteous. 14 That We may bring forth thereby grain and vegetation 15 And gardens dense and luxuriant. 16 Surely the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 A day when the trumpet is blown and ye come in multitudes, 18 and the heaven shall be opened, and become gates, 19 and the mountains are set in motion, and become a vapour. 20 Indeed, Gehenna (Hell) has become an ambush, 21 It will be a place of return 22 Living therein for ages. 23 and where they will taste neither coolness nor any drink 24 But boiling and intensely cold water, 25 A fitting recompense (for them). 26 They indeed hoped not for a reckoning, 27 and persistently rejected Our revelations. 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 'Taste! We shall not increase you except in punishment' 30
