The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 About the awesome tiding [of resurrection,] 2 Regarding which they hold different views. 3 Nay, but in time they will come to understand [it]! 4 Nay, again, they will come to know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a bed, 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 We created you in pairs, 8 and We have made your sleep [a symbol of] death 9 And made the night as a covering, 10 And We have made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven firmaments, 12 and We appointed a blazing lamp 13 And do We not send down from the clouds water in abundance, 14 so that We might bring forth thereby grain, and herbs, 15 And gardens of thick growth. 16 Indeed the Day of Decision is a time fixed. 17 On that day the trumpet will be sounded and you will come (to Us) in huge groups. 18 and heaven is opened, and become gates, 19 The mountains put in motion turning into a mirage. 20 Surely hell lies in wait, 21 A place of resort for the inordinate, 22 They will abide therein for ages. 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink, 24 except boiling water and pus, 25 An appropriate recompense. 26 They did not expect such a Judgment 27 and roundly denied Our Signs as false. 28 But all things We have enumerated in writing. 29 So taste (the fruit of your deeds). We shall only increase your torment. 30
