The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Of what do they question one another? 1 Of the mighty Announcement, 2 That over which they are in disagreement. 3 Nay, but they will come to know! 4 Again, by no means! anon they shall know. 5 HAVE WE NOT made the earth a resting-place [for you,] 6 and the mountains [its] pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs (male and female, tall and short, good and bad, etc.). 8 and gave you repose in sleep, 9 And made the night as a covering, 10 And made the day as a means of subsistence? 11 Have We not made seven strong heavens above you, 12 And have made (therein) a shinning lamp (sun). 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water, 14 In order to produce grain and plants with it. 15 and gardens dense with foliage. 16 Surely the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 the Day that the Horn is blown, and you shall come in crowds 18 The heavens will be opened wide and turn into so many doors, 19 The mountains put in motion turning into a mirage. 20 Hell will lie in wait (for its prey). 21 It will be a place of return 22 They will abide therein for ages. 23 They shall not taste therein cool nor drink 24 Save scalding water and corruption. 25 a fitting requital, 26 Verily they were wont not to look for a reckoning. 27 And denied Our verses with [emphatic] denial. 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 'Taste! We shall increase you not save in chastisement.' 30
