The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Whereof do they question one another? 1 Is it about the awesome tiding 2 whereupon they are at variance? 3 By no means! anon they shall know. 4 Yes, indeed, before long they will learn all about it. 5 Have We not made the earth a resting place? 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs 8 And made your sleep [a means for] rest 9 and made the night a covering, 10 and We appointed day for a livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong ones, 12 And have appointed a dazzling lamp, 13 And We sent down rain from water-laden clouds pouring in torrents 14 That We may produce from it grain and vegetation, 15 and gardens dense with foliage? 16 Verily the Day of Sorting out is a thing appointed, 17 The Day the Horn is blown and you will come forth in multitudes 18 The heavens will have openings like doors. 19 And the mountains will be moved – they will therefore become like mirages. 20 Indeed hell is lying in ambush. 21 A home for the rebellious. 22 there, they shall live for ages, 23 Neither coolness shall they taste therein nor any [thirst-quenching] drink 24 only burning despair and ice-cold darkness: 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 Verily they were wont not to look for a reckoning. 27 And they denied Our signs to the extreme. 28 Everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 So taste! for We will not add to you aught but chastisement. 30
