The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ What are they asking each other about? 1 Concerning the Great News, 2 About which they differ? 3 No indeed; they shall soon know! 4 Again, no indeed; they shall soon know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 We created you in pairs, 8 And have appointed your sleep for repose, 9 The night a covering, 10 and We made the day for a livelihood. 11 Have We not made seven strong heavens above you, 12 And We have set therein lamps glowing. 13 And from the wind-driven clouds We send down waters pouring in abundance, 14 Thereby to produce grain and plant, 15 And gardens thick with trees. 16 Indeed, the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 The day on which the trumpet shall be blown so you shall come forth in hosts, 18 The heavens will have openings like doors. 19 The mountains will be driven away and become like mirages. 20 Indeed, Hell has been lying in wait 21 a home for the transgressors, 22 In which they will remain for ages [unending]. 23 Therein taste they neither coolness nor (any) drink 24 save boiling water and wash of the wounds; 25 A fitting recompense (for them). 26 Indeed, they were not expecting an account 27 And denied Our verses with [emphatic] denial. 28 but We have placed on record every single thing [of what they did]. 29 'Taste! We shall increase you not save in chastisement.' 30
