The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 Is it about the awesome tiding 2 concerning which they are in disagreement! 3 Indeed they will come to know soon; 4 They will indeed come to know soon. 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 and the mountains [its] pegs? 7 Have We not created you in pairs, 8 And made your sleep [a means for] rest 9 And have appointed the night as a cloak, 10 And made the day as a means of subsistence? 11 And constructed above you seven strong [heavens] 12 And made [therein] a burning lamp 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water, 14 that We may bring forth with it grain, plants 15 And gardens thick with trees. 16 Surely the day of decision is (a day) appointed: 17 The day on which the trumpet shall be blown so you shall come forth in hosts, 18 And the heaven shall be opened so that it shall be all openings, 19 and the mountains are set in motion, and become a vapour. 20 Indeed, Gehenna (Hell) has become an ambush, 21 for the insolent a resort, 22 where they shall remain for ages, 23 Finding neither sleep nor any thing to drink 24 But boiling and intensely cold water, 25 a befitting recompense for their deeds. 26 For that they used not to fear any account (for their deeds), 27 And rejected Our signs as lies. 28 But all things We have enumerated in writing. 29 [And so We shall say:] "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
