The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ ABOUT WHAT do they [most often] ask one another? 1 About the great news - 2 About which they cannot agree. 3 Verily, they shall soon (come to) know! 4 Nay! Nay! they shall soon know. 5 HAVE WE NOT made the earth a resting-place [for you,] 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 Have We not created you in pairs, 8 and We appointed your sleep for a rest; 9 and We appointed night for a garment, 10 and We appointed day for a livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven firmaments, 12 And have appointed a dazzling lamp, 13 and have sent down out of the rainclouds water cascading 14 That We may bring forth thereby corn and herbs, 15 and gardens dense with foliage. 16 Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 The Day when the Trumpet will be blown, and you shall come forth in crowds (groups); 18 And the heaven will have been opened, and it will have become doors. 19 And the mountains are removed and will be [but] a mirage. 20 Lo! hell lurketh in ambush, 21 The destination of the rebellious. 22 They will dwell therein for ages. 23 and where they will taste neither coolness nor any drink 24 save boiling water and wash of the wounds; 25 a meet requital [for their sins]! 26 Verily they were wont not to look for a reckoning. 27 And they belied Our revelations with strong belying. 28 but We have placed on record every single thing [of what they did]. 29 [And so We shall say:] "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
