The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ Of what ask they? 1 About the awesome tidings [of resurrection] 2 whereon they are at variance. 3 No! They are going to know. 4 Again, no indeed; they shall soon know! 5 HAVE WE NOT made the earth a resting-place [for you,] 6 and fixed the mountains like pegs, 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 and gave you repose in sleep, 9 The night a covering, 10 And the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 and placed therein a hot, shining lamp, 13 And then sent down hard rain from the water bearing clouds. 14 so that We may bring forth thereby grain and a variety of plants, 15 And gardens of luxurious growth? 16 Indeed the Day of Decision is a time fixed. 17 the Day when the trumpet [of resurrection] is sounded and you all come forward in multitudes; 18 And the heaven is opened and becometh as gates, 19 And the mountains shall vanish, as if they were a mirage. 20 Lo! hell lurketh in ambush, 21 A dwelling place for the Taghun (those who transgress the boundry limits set by Allah like polytheists, disbelievers in the Oneness of Allah, hyprocrites, sinners, criminals, etc.), 22 They will remain in it for ages. 23 Therein taste they neither coolness nor (any) drink 24 Save scalding water and corruption. 25 as a fitting recompense for their deeds. 26 For that they used not to fear any account (for their deeds), 27 And denied Our verses with [emphatic] denial. 28 And everything We have recorded in a book. 29 "So taste [the penalty], and never will We increase you except in torment." 30
