The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ ABOUT WHAT do they [most often] ask one another? 1 Of the mighty Announcement, 2 About which they cannot agree. 3 Nay! they shall soon come to know 4 Again, by no means! anon they shall know. 5 Have We not made the earth an expanse. 6 and the mountains [its] pegs? 7 We created you in pairs, 8 And We have made your sleep as a rest. 9 And We have made the night a covering. 10 and We made the day for a livelihood. 11 And (have We not) built over you the seven firmaments, 12 And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour? 13 And We sent down rain from water-laden clouds pouring in torrents 14 That We may bring forth thereby grain and vegetation 15 and thick gardens grow? 16 Verily, the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 The day the trumpet blast is sounded you will come in hordes; 18 and when the skies are opened and become [as wide-flung] gates; 19 and the mountains move, and vaporize. 20 Truly, Hell is a place of ambush, 21 A home for the rebellious. 22 In it shall they remain for a long time. 23 Therein taste they neither coolness nor (any) drink 24 except boiling water and pus 25 Reward proportioned (to their evil deeds). 26 They did not expect such a Judgment 27 and persistently rejected Our revelations. 28 but We have recorded everything in a Book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
