The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Of what ask they? 1 About the great news - 2 About which they have been differing? 3 But they will soon come to know. 4 Nay! Nay! they shall soon know. 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 and raised the mountains like supporting poles? 7 And We created you in pairs 8 And have made your sleep as a thing for rest. 9 and We made the night a mantle, 10 And have made the day for livelihood. 11 We have built above you seven mighty heavens, 12 And made [therein] a burning lamp 13 And sent down, from the rain clouds, pouring water 14 That We may produce from it grain and vegetation, 15 And orchards full of trees and interlacing boughs. 16 VERILY, the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false] has indeed its appointed time: 17 It is a Day whereon the trumpet will be blown, and ye will come in multitudes. 18 and heaven is opened, having gates, 19 And the mountains will be moved – they will therefore become like mirages. 20 Indeed, Gehenna (Hell) has become an ambush, 21 a resort for the rebellious; 22 Where they will remain for aeons, 23 Finding neither sleep nor any thing to drink 24 save boiling water and wash of the wounds; 25 a fitting requital, 26 They indeed hoped not for a reckoning, 27 and roundly denied Our Signs as false. 28 However, We have recorded everything in a book. 29 So taste! for We will not add to you aught but chastisement. 30
