The News (Al-Naba')
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 About the awesome tiding [of resurrection,] 2 About which they are in disagreement. 3 Nay, but in time they will come to understand [it]! 4 And once again: Nay, but in time they will come to understand! 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs (male and female, tall and short, good and bad, etc.). 8 And We have made your sleep as a rest. 9 And We have made the night a covering. 10 And made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 We raised over you several secure (skies), 12 and We have set therein a glowing lamp. 13 And sent down, from the rain clouds, pouring water 14 That We may bring forth thereby grain and vegetation 15 And gardens of thick growth. 16 Verily, the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 the Day when the trumpet [of resurrection] is sounded and you all come forward in multitudes; 18 and the heaven shall be opened, and become gates, 19 and the mountains will be set in motion and become a mirage. 20 Indeed, Hell has been lying in wait 21 for the insolent a resort, 22 They will dwell therein for ages. 23 tasting therein neither coolness nor any drink 24 Except boiling water, and dirty wound discharges. 25 a meet requital [for their sins]! 26 They were those who did not expect a reckoning, 27 And rejected Our signs as lies. 28 We have kept account of everything in a book. 29 Therefore taste it now – We shall not increase anything for you except the punishment. 30
