The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ What are they asking (one another)? 1 About the great tidings! 2 About which they have been differing? 3 Surely yes, they will soon come to know! 4 Again, indeed, they shall know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a wide expanse, 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 We created you in pairs, 8 And have made your sleep as a thing for rest. 9 And have made the night as a covering (through its darkness), 10 And the day for seeking livelihood. 11 We have built above you seven mighty heavens, 12 (the sun) as a shining torch 13 And from the wind-driven clouds We send down waters pouring in abundance, 14 That We may produce from it grain and vegetation, 15 and gardens dense with foliage. 16 VERILY, the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false] has indeed its appointed time: 17 The Day the Horn is blown and you will come forth in multitudes 18 The heavens will be opened wide and turn into so many doors, 19 And the mountains shall be moved off so that they shall remain a mere semblance. 20 Lo! hell lurketh in ambush, 21 The rebels' abode, 22 therein to tarry for ages, 23 They will not taste therein cool or any drink. 24 Save boiling water and a paralysing cold: 25 An exact recompense (according to their evil crimes). 26 Behold, they were not expecting to be called to account, 27 and they cried loud lies to Our signs; 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
