The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 Is it about the awesome tiding 2 whereupon they are at variance? 3 By no means! anon they shall know. 4 Yes, indeed, before long they will learn all about it. 5 Did We not make the earth a spreading, 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 And (have We not) created you in pairs, 8 and gave you repose in sleep, 9 and We made the night a mantle, 10 and made the day to seek livelihood, 11 We raised over you several secure (skies), 12 And have appointed a dazzling lamp, 13 And We have sent down from the rain-clouds water plenteous. 14 So that We bring forth thereby corn and vegetation. 15 And gardens dense and luxuriant. 16 Verily the Day of Sorting out is a thing appointed, 17 On that Day when the trumpet shall be sounded, you shall come in droves, 18 and the heaven shall be opened, and become gates, 19 And the mountains shall vanish, as if they were a mirage. 20 [On that Day,] verily, hell will lie in wait [for those who deny the truth] 21 a return for the insolent, 22 They will remain in it for ages. 23 and where they will taste neither coolness nor any drink 24 Except hot boiling water and hot pus discharged from the people of hell. 25 a fitting requital, 26 Indeed, they did not hope for a Reckoning, 27 But they (impudently) treated Our Signs as false. 28 But all things We have enumerated in writing. 29 "So taste [the penalty], and never will We increase you except in torment." 30
