The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Whereof do they question one another? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 concerning which they are in disagreement! 3 But they will soon come to know. 4 Again surely yes, they will soon come to know! 5 Have We not made the earth an expanse, 6 The mountains tent-pins? 7 Have We not created you in pairs, 8 And made your sleep [a means for] rest 9 and made the night a covering, 10 And have appointed the day for livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven firmaments, 12 And placed a lamp therein brightly burning. 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water, 14 So that We bring forth thereby corn and vegetation. 15 And gardens of luxurious growth? 16 Surely the Day of Judgement has an appointed time; 17 The day on which the trumpet shall be blown so you shall come forth in hosts, 18 And the heaven shall be opened so that it shall be all openings, 19 The mountains will be driven away and become like mirages. 20 [On that Day,] verily, hell will lie in wait [for those who deny the truth] 21 a home for the transgressors, 22 therein to tarry for ages, 23 They will not taste therein [any] coolness or drink 24 save boiling water and a stinking fluid -- 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 For that they used not to fear any account (for their deeds), 27 But they belied Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, and that which Our Prophet (Peace be upon him) brought) completely. 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 'Taste! We shall increase you not save in chastisement.' 30
