The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ ABOUT WHAT do they [most often] ask one another? 1 About the awesome tidings [of resurrection] 2 About which they cannot agree. 3 Indeed, they shall know! 4 Surely, they will soon find out the truth! 5 Did We not make the earth a spreading, 6 The mountains tent-pins? 7 And We have created you in pairs. 8 And We have made your sleep as a rest. 9 and We made the night a mantle, 10 and made the day to seek livelihood, 11 And built seven strong roofs above you. 12 and placed therein a hot, shining lamp, 13 And from the wind-driven clouds We send down waters pouring in abundance, 14 so that We may thereby bring forth grain and vegetation, 15 And gardens of luxurious growth? 16 Verily, the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 the Day when the trumpet [of resurrection] is sounded and you all come forward in multitudes; 18 and heaven is opened, having gates, 19 And the mountains will have been removed away, and they will have become as mirage. 20 Verily the Hell is an ambuscade: 21 a goal for all who are wont to transgress the bounds of what is right! 22 In it shall they remain for a long time. 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink. 24 except boiling water and pus, 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 Surely they feared not the account, 27 and persistently rejected Our revelations. 28 We have kept account of everything in a book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
