The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ What do they question each other about! 1 About the Great News 2 that they are in utter disagreement? 3 (What they think is certainly despicable!). They will soon come to know (the reality). 4 again, no indeed; soon will they come to know. 5 Have We not made the earth an expanse, 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 We created you in pairs, 8 And have appointed your sleep for repose, 9 and We appointed night for a garment, 10 and made the day [a symbol of] life. 11 And We have builded over you seven strong heavens. 12 (the sun) as a shining torch 13 And do We not send down from the clouds water in abundance, 14 That We may produce therewith corn and vegetations, 15 And gardens thick with trees. 16 Verily the Day of Sorting out is a thing appointed, 17 the Day when the Trumpet shall be blown, and you will come forth in multitudes; 18 And the heaven is opened and becometh as gates, 19 The mountains will be driven away and become like mirages. 20 Certainly Hell lies in wait, 21 a home for the transgressors, 22 therein they shall abide for ages, 23 Neither coolness shall they taste therein nor any [thirst-quenching] drink 24 Save boiling water and a paralysing cold: 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 They were those who did not expect a reckoning, 27 and persistently rejected Our revelations. 28 And all things We have recorded in a Book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
