The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ What are they questioning each other about? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 concerning which they are in disagreement! 3 By no means! anon they shall know. 4 Again, no indeed; they shall soon know! 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 And We have made your sleep as a rest. 9 and made the night [its] cloak 10 and made the day for earning a livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 And placed a lamp therein brightly burning. 13 and sent down abundant water from the clouds 14 That We may bring forth thereby grain and vegetation 15 And gardens thick with trees. 16 VERILY, the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false] has indeed its appointed time: 17 A day when the trumpet is blown and ye come in multitudes, 18 and when the sky shall be opened up and will become all doors; 19 And the mountains shall be moved away from their places and they will be as if they were a mirage. 20 Verily the Hell is an ambuscade: 21 A home for the rebellious. 22 Where they will remain for aeons, 23 They will not feel cold nor taste any drink 24 except boiling water and pus 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 for they never expected to be called to account, 27 And called Our communications a lie, giving the lie (to the truth). 28 And everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
