The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Of what ask they? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 Regarding which they hold different views. 3 Nay! they shall soon come to know 4 They will indeed come to know soon. 5 Have We not made the earth as a bed, 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs (male and female, tall and short, good and bad, etc.). 8 And have made your sleep as a thing for rest. 9 And have appointed the night as a cloak, 10 And made the day for livelihood 11 And constructed above you seven strong [heavens] 12 And have made (therein) a shinning lamp (sun). 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water, 14 In order to produce grain and plants with it. 15 And gardens of luxurious growth? 16 Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 On that Day when the trumpet shall be sounded, you shall come in droves, 18 The heavens will be opened wide and turn into so many doors, 19 And the hills are set in motion and become as a mirage. 20 Surely, Hell lies in wait, 21 a home for the transgressors, 22 They will remain in it for ages. 23 They will not feel cold nor taste any drink 24 Save boiling water and a paralysing cold: 25 , A fitting reward. 26 They did not expect such a Judgment 27 and they cried loud lies to Our signs; 28 And We have recorded everything in a book, 29 So taste (of that which ye have earned). No increase do We give you save of torment. 30
