The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ What do they question each other about! 1 About the great tidings! 2 Concerning which they differ. 3 Surely yes, they will soon come to know! 4 Again, no indeed; they shall soon know! 5 HAVE WE NOT made the earth a resting-place [for you,] 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs, 8 and We made your sleep a rest, 9 And made the night as a covering, 10 and made the day for earning a livelihood. 11 And We built above you seven strong ones, 12 and placed in them a blazing lamp 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water, 14 In order to produce grain and plants with it. 15 and gardens dense with follage. 16 VERILY, the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false] has indeed its appointed time: 17 The Day that the Trumpet shall be sounded, and ye shall come forth in crowds; 18 and when the sky shall be opened up and will become all doors; 19 And the hills are set in motion and become as a mirage. 20 Surely hell lies in wait, 21 a resort for the rebellious; 22 Where they will remain for aeons, 23 They shall not taste therein cool nor drink 24 save boiling water and a stinking fluid -- 25 Reward proportioned (to their evil deeds). 26 For verily, they used not to look for a reckoning. 27 And they denied Our signs to the extreme. 28 but We have recorded everything in a Book. 29 'Taste! We shall not increase you except in punishment' 30
