The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ What are they asking each other about? 1 About the great event, 2 that they are in utter disagreement? 3 By no means! anon they shall know. 4 Nay, again, but they will come to know! 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 And (have We not) created you in pairs, 8 and gave you repose in sleep, 9 And made the night as clothing 10 And We have made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 We raised over you several secure (skies), 12 and placed in them a blazing lamp 13 And from the wind-driven clouds We send down waters pouring in abundance, 14 That We may bring forth thereby grain and vegetation 15 And gardens thick with trees. 16 Surely the day of decision is (a day) appointed: 17 The day the trumpet blast is sounded you will come in hordes; 18 And the heaven shall be opened so that it shall be all openings, 19 and the mountains are set in motion, and become a vapour. 20 Surely, Hell lies in wait, 21 The rebels' abode, 22 They will tarry therein for ages. 23 They will not taste therein cool or any drink. 24 Save scalding water and corruption. 25 as a fitting recompense for their deeds. 26 Indeed, they were not expecting an account 27 And rejected Our signs as lies. 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 So taste (of that which ye have earned). No increase do We give you save of torment. 30
