The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ What are they asking (one another)? 1 (Is it) of the great announcement 2 whereupon they are at variance? 3 (What they think is certainly despicable!). They will soon come to know (the reality). 4 Nay, again, but they will come to know! 5 Did We not make the earth a spreading, 6 The mountains tent-pins? 7 And We have created you in pairs; 8 And made sleep for you to rest, 9 And have appointed the night as a cloak, 10 And made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We have builded over you seven strong heavens. 12 And made [therein] a burning lamp 13 And then sent down hard rain from the water bearing clouds. 14 So that We bring forth thereby corn and vegetation. 15 and luxuriant gardens. 16 Indeed the Day of Decision is a time fixed. 17 The day the trumpet blast is sounded you will come in hordes; 18 And the heaven will have been opened, and it will have become doors. 19 and the mountains shall be made to vanish, as if they had been a mirage. 20 Lo! hell lurketh in ambush, 21 A place of resort for the inordinate, 22 where they shall remain for ages, 23 Finding neither sleep nor any thing to drink 24 save boiling water and a stinking fluid -- 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 Indeed, they were not expecting an account 27 And they denied Our signs to the extreme. 28 And all things have We preserved on record. 29 "So taste ye (the fruits of your deeds); for no increase shall We grant you, except in Punishment." 30
