The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ What are they questioning each other about? 1 About the great tidings! 2 About which they are in disagreement. 3 No indeed; they shall soon know! 4 Then, no! They are going to know. 5 HAVE WE NOT made the earth a resting-place [for you,] 6 And the high hills bulwarks? 7 And We have created you in pairs (male and female, tall and short, good and bad, etc.). 8 and We appointed your sleep for a rest; 9 and the night as a cover, 10 And made the day for livelihood 11 And We have built above you seven firmaments, 12 And We have set therein lamps glowing. 13 and have sent down from the clouds, pouring rain 14 That We may bring forth thereby corn and herbs, 15 And orchards full of trees and interlacing boughs. 16 Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 A day when the trumpet is blown and ye come in multitudes, 18 And the heaven shall be opened so that it shall be all openings, 19 and the mountains will be set in motion and become a mirage. 20 Truly Hell is as a place of ambush, 21 It will be a place of return 22 where they shall remain for ages, 23 they shall taste in it no coolness, nor any pleasant drink 24 Save scalding water and corruption. 25 , A fitting reward. 26 Indeed, they were not expecting an account 27 But they (impudently) treated Our Signs as false. 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 'Taste! We shall not increase you except in punishment' 30
