The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 About the great event, 2 Concerning which they differ. 3 No indeed; soon will they come to know; 4 Nay, again, they will come to know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a bed, 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 Have We not created you in pairs, 8 and We have made your sleep [a symbol of] death 9 and We made the night a mantle, 10 And have appointed the day for livelihood. 11 and built above you seven strong firmaments, 12 And have appointed a dazzling lamp, 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water. 14 Thereby to produce grain and plant, 15 And gardens of entwined growth. 16 Verily, the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 It is a Day whereon the trumpet will be blown, and ye will come in multitudes. 18 And the heaven shall be opened, and it will become as gates, 19 And the mountains shall be moved away from their places and they will be as if they were a mirage. 20 Surely hell lies in wait, 21 A home for the rebellious. 22 where they shall remain for ages, 23 They shall not taste therein cool nor drink 24 Save a boiling fluid and a fluid, dark, murky, intensely cold, 25 An exact recompense (according to their evil crimes). 26 They did not expect such a Judgment 27 But they (impudently) treated Our Signs as false. 28 but We have recorded everything in a Book. 29 'Taste! We shall increase you not save in chastisement.' 30
