The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ What are they questioning each other about? 1 Of the mighty tiding 2 Concerning which they differ. 3 But they will soon come to know. 4 Yes, indeed, before long they will learn all about it. 5 HAVE WE NOT made the earth a resting-place [for you,] 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 We created you in pairs, 8 and We appointed your sleep for a rest; 9 And have appointed the night as a cloak, 10 and We appointed day for a livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven firmaments, 12 And made [therein] a burning lamp 13 And sent down, from the rain clouds, pouring water 14 That We may produce therewith corn and vegetables, 15 And orchards full of trees and interlacing boughs. 16 Verily the Day of Sorting out is a thing appointed, 17 The Day that the Trumpet shall be sounded, and ye shall come forth in crowds; 18 The heavens will have openings like doors. 19 The mountains will be driven away and become like mirages. 20 Lo! hell lurketh in ambush, 21 for the insolent a resort, 22 there, they shall live for ages, 23 They shall not taste therein cool nor drink 24 Except boiling water, and dirty wound discharges. 25 An appropriate recompense. 26 They did not expect such a Judgment 27 and they absolutely belied Our verses, 28 but We have placed on record every single thing [of what they did]. 29 [And so We shall say:] "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
