The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ What do they question each other about! 1 Of the mighty Announcement, 2 whereupon they are at variance? 3 No! They are going to know. 4 Verily, verily they shall soon (come to) know! 5 Have We not made the earth an even expanse? 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 and We have made your sleep [a symbol of] death 9 The night a covering, 10 and We made the day for a livelihood. 11 We have built above you seven mighty heavens, 12 and placed in them a blazing lamp 13 and sent down heavy rains from the clouds 14 That We may bring forth thereby corn and herbs, 15 And gardens of thick foliage. 16 Surely the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 The day on which the trumpet shall be blown so you shall come forth in hosts, 18 And the heavens shall be opened as if there were doors, 19 And the mountains shall be moved off so that they shall remain a mere semblance. 20 [On that Day,] verily, hell will lie in wait [for those who deny the truth] 21 It will be a place of return 22 therein to tarry for ages, 23 and where they will taste neither coolness nor any drink 24 Save boiling water and a paralysing cold: 25 A fitting recompense (for them). 26 Surely they feared not the account, 27 And called Our communications a lie, giving the lie (to the truth). 28 And We have recorded everything in a book, 29 "So taste [the penalty], and never will We increase you except in torment." 30
