The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Concerning what are they disputing? 1 About the great event, 2 concerning which they have disputes. 3 But they will soon come to know. 4 Nay, again, but they will come to know! 5 HAVE WE NOT made the earth a resting-place [for you,] 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs. 8 And have made your sleep as a thing for rest. 9 The night a covering, 10 And We have made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We made above you seven strong ones, 12 and placed therein a hot, shining lamp, 13 And from the wind-driven clouds We send down waters pouring in abundance, 14 to make the seeds, plants, 15 and gardens luxuriant. 16 Surely the day of decision is (a day) appointed: 17 The Day that the Trumpet shall be sounded, and ye shall come forth in crowds; 18 And the heaven will be opened – it therefore becomes like gates. 19 and when the mountains are made to vanish as if they had been a mirage. 20 Certainly Hell lies in wait, 21 The rebels' abode, 22 They will dwell therein for ages. 23 They will not taste therein cool or any drink. 24 But boiling and intensely cold water, 25 The reward to each is according to what he is. 26 For lo! they looked not for a reckoning; 27 and they absolutely belied Our verses, 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 So taste (of that which ye have earned). No increase do We give you save of torment. 30
