The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ Of what do they question one another? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 that they are in utter disagreement? 3 No indeed; soon will they come to know; 4 Nay, again, but they will come to know! 5 Did We not make the earth a spreading, 6 and raised the mountains like supporting poles? 7 And We have created you in pairs, 8 and gave you repose in sleep, 9 and the night as a cover, 10 and made the day for earning a livelihood. 11 And built seven strong roofs above you. 12 And We have set therein lamps glowing. 13 and sent down abundant water from the clouds 14 that We may bring forth with it grain, plants 15 And gardens dense and luxuriant. 16 Indeed, the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 the Day that the Horn is blown, and you shall come in crowds 18 and when the skies are opened and become [as wide-flung] gates; 19 and the mountains shall be made to vanish, as if they had been a mirage. 20 [On that Day,] verily, hell will lie in wait [for those who deny the truth] 21 for the insolent a resort, 22 Living therein for ages. 23 Therein taste they neither coolness nor (any) drink 24 save boiling water and wash of the wounds; 25 a befitting recompense for their deeds. 26 Indeed they had no fear of the account. 27 But they (impudently) treated Our Signs as false. 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 [And so We shall say:] "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
