The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 They quarrel about the great news 2 whereon they are at variance. 3 Indeed they will come to know soon; 4 Nay, again, they will come to know! 5 Have We not made the earth an expanse. 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 And (have We not) created you in pairs, 8 and We have made your sleep [a symbol of] death 9 made the night as a covering, 10 And We made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 Have We not made seven strong heavens above you, 12 And placed a lamp therein brightly burning. 13 And from the wind-driven clouds We send down waters pouring in abundance, 14 That We may produce therewith corn and vegetables, 15 and thick gardens grow? 16 Surely the Day of Judgement has an appointed time; 17 the Day when the Trumpet shall be blown, and you will come forth in multitudes; 18 And the heavens shall be opened as if there were doors, 19 and when the mountains are made to vanish as if they had been a mirage. 20 Indeed, Gehenna (Hell) has become an ambush, 21 A dwelling place for the Taghun (those who transgress the boundry limits set by Allah like polytheists, disbelievers in the Oneness of Allah, hyprocrites, sinners, criminals, etc.), 22 therein they shall abide for ages, 23 They shall not taste therein cool nor drink 24 save boiling water and pus 25 Requital corresponding. 26 They were those who did not expect a reckoning, 27 and they rejected outright Our signs; 28 And everything We have recorded in a book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
