The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ Of what do they ask one another? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 on which they [so utterly] disagree. 3 By no means! anon they shall know. 4 Again, no indeed; they shall soon know! 5 Have We not made the earth an expanse. 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 and We made your sleep a rest, 9 And made the night as clothing 10 And have made the day for livelihood. 11 and built above you seven strong firmaments, 12 and placed therein a hot, shining lamp, 13 And We sent down rain from water-laden clouds pouring in torrents 14 That We may produce therewith corn and vegetables, 15 and gardens dense with foliage? 16 Indeed, the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 On that Day when the trumpet shall be sounded, you shall come in droves, 18 And the heaven will be opened – it therefore becomes like gates. 19 And the mountains shall be moved off so that they shall remain a mere semblance. 20 Verily the Hell is an ambuscade: 21 a return for the insolent, 22 In it shall they remain for a long time. 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink. 24 But boiling and intensely cold water, 25 An exact recompense (according to their evil crimes). 26 They indeed hoped not for a reckoning, 27 And they denied Our signs to the extreme. 28 And all things have We preserved on record. 29 Taste therefore. We shall not increase you in aught but torment. 30
