The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 About the great event, 2 whereupon they are at variance? 3 No indeed; soon will they come to know; 4 Nay, again, but they will come to know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 and the mountains [its] pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 And made your sleep for rest, 9 And have made the night as a covering (through its darkness), 10 and made the day for earning a livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong ones, 12 And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour? 13 and sent down abundant water from the clouds 14 so that We might bring forth thereby grain, and herbs, 15 And dense gardens. 16 Surely the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 The day on which the trumpet shall be blown so you shall come forth in hosts, 18 And the heavens shall be opened as if there were doors, 19 And the mountains shall vanish, as if they were a mirage. 20 Surely, Hell lies in wait, 21 a resort for the rebellious; 22 Living therein for ages. 23 They will not taste therein cool or any drink. 24 save boiling water and a stinking fluid -- 25 An exact recompense (according to their evil crimes). 26 Surely they feared not the account, 27 and roundly denied Our Signs as false. 28 And all things have We preserved on record. 29 "So taste [the penalty], and never will We increase you except in torment." 30
