The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 About which they are in disagreement. 3 Nay, but in time they will come to understand [it]! 4 Again, indeed, they shall know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 and raised the mountains like supporting poles? 7 and created you in pairs (as men and women), 8 and We appointed your sleep for a rest; 9 The night a covering, 10 And made the day as a means of subsistence? 11 And We made above you seven strong ones, 12 And have kept a very bright lamp in it. 13 and sent down heavy rains from the clouds 14 That We may bring forth thereby corn and herbs, 15 and luxuriant gardens. 16 Verily the Day of Decision is a time appointed. 17 On that day the trumpet will be sounded and you will come (to Us) in huge groups. 18 and the heaven shall be opened, and become gates, 19 And the mountains will have been removed away, and they will have become as mirage. 20 Indeed, Hell has been lying in wait 21 A home for the rebellious. 22 Living therein for ages. 23 tasting therein neither coolness nor any drink 24 save boiling water and a stinking fluid -- 25 Requital corresponding. 26 For verily, they used not to look for a reckoning. 27 And rejected Our signs as lies. 28 However, We have recorded everything in a book. 29 (They will be told), "Suffer, We shall only increase the torment for you". 30
