The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ What are they asking each other about? 1 They quarrel about the great news 2 concerning which they have disputes. 3 By no means! anon they shall know. 4 Yes, indeed, before long they will learn all about it. 5 Have We not made the earth as a wide expanse, 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 And We have made your sleep as a rest. 9 and We appointed night for a garment, 10 And We made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And built seven strong roofs above you. 12 and placed in them a blazing lamp 13 And from the wind-driven clouds We send down waters pouring in abundance, 14 That We may produce from it grain and vegetation, 15 and gardens dense with follage. 16 Verily the Day of Sorting out is a thing appointed, 17 A day when the trumpet is blown and ye come in multitudes, 18 and when the sky shall be opened up and will become all doors; 19 and the mountains move, and vaporize. 20 Surely the Hell is an ambush, 21 For the transgressors a place of destination: 22 therein they shall abide for ages, 23 Neither coolness shall they taste therein nor any [thirst-quenching] drink 24 Except scalding water and [foul] purulence - 25 as a fitting recompense for their deeds. 26 Surely they feared not the account, 27 having given the lie to Our messages one and all: 28 And everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 [And so We shall say:] "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
