The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ What are they asking (one another)? 1 About the great event, 2 Concerning which they differ. 3 Surely yes, they will soon come to know! 4 Again, no indeed; they shall soon know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a bed, 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 And have made your sleep as a thing for rest. 9 And We have made the night a covering. 10 and made the day for earning a livelihood. 11 and built above you seven strong firmaments, 12 And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour? 13 And We send down from the clouds water pouring forth abundantly, 14 In order to produce grain and plants with it. 15 And dense gardens. 16 VERILY, the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false] has indeed its appointed time: 17 the day the Trumpet is blown, and you shall come in troops, 18 and when the skies are opened and become [as wide-flung] gates; 19 and the mountains shall be made to vanish, as if they had been a mirage. 20 Hell will lie in wait (for its prey). 21 a goal for all who are wont to transgress the bounds of what is right! 22 In which they will remain for ages [unending]. 23 They will not taste therein cool or any drink. 24 Except scalding water and [foul] purulence - 25 The reward to each is according to what he is. 26 For indeed they did not look forward to any reckoning, 27 and they cried loud lies to Our signs; 28 And all things We have recorded in a Book. 29 "So taste [the penalty], and never will We increase you except in torment." 30
