The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ What are they asking (one another)? 1 About the awesome tiding [of resurrection,] 2 Concerning which they differ. 3 Nay, they will come to know! 4 Again, no indeed; they shall soon know! 5 Did We not make the earth a bed? 6 The mountains tent-pins? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 and gave you repose in sleep, 9 made the night as a covering, 10 And made the day for livelihood 11 And We built above you seven strong ones, 12 and placed in them a blazing lamp 13 and sent down heavy rains from the clouds 14 so that We may bring forth thereby grain and a variety of plants, 15 And gardens thick with trees. 16 Indeed, the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 On that Day when the trumpet shall be sounded, you shall come in droves, 18 And the heavens shall be opened as if there were doors, 19 And the hills are set in motion and become as a mirage. 20 [On that Day,] verily, hell will lie in wait [for those who deny the truth] 21 a resort for the rebellious; 22 Where they will remain for aeons, 23 They will neither taste anything cool in it, nor anything to drink. 24 Except scalding water and [foul] purulence - 25 a fitting requital, 26 Indeed, they were not expecting an account 27 And denied Our verses with [emphatic] denial. 28 However, We have recorded everything in a book. 29 So taste (of that which ye have earned). No increase do We give you save of torment. 30
