The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ What are they asking (one another)? 1 About the great event, 2 whereon they are at variance. 3 (What they think is certainly despicable!). They will soon come to know (the reality). 4 Nay, again, they will come to know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 And have made your sleep as a thing for rest. 9 and We appointed night for a garment, 10 And We have made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 Have We not made seven strong heavens above you, 12 And have kept a very bright lamp in it. 13 and sent down heavy rains from the clouds 14 that We may bring forth thereby grain and plants, 15 And gardens of entwined growth. 16 Indeed the Day of Decision is a time fixed. 17 The Day the Horn is blown and you will come forth in multitudes 18 And the heavens shall be opened as if there were doors, 19 And the mountains shall vanish, as if they were a mirage. 20 Verily the Hell is an ambuscade: 21 a return for the insolent, 22 therein they shall abide for ages, 23 Finding neither sleep nor any thing to drink 24 Save boiling water and a paralysing cold: 25 as a fitting recompense for their deeds. 26 For indeed they did not look forward to any reckoning, 27 But they (impudently) treated Our Signs as false. 28 And all things We have recorded in a Book. 29 So taste! for We will not add to you aught but chastisement. 30
