The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Whereof do they question one another? 1 (Is it) of the great announcement 2 whereon they are at variance. 3 Indeed, they shall know! 4 They will indeed come to know soon. 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 And We have created you in pairs (male and female, tall and short, good and bad, etc.). 8 And made your sleep for rest, 9 And have appointed the night as a cloak, 10 And made the day for livelihood 11 and built above you seven strong firmaments, 12 And placed a lamp therein brightly burning. 13 And then sent down hard rain from the water bearing clouds. 14 That We may produce from it grain and vegetation, 15 And gardens of thick growth. 16 Verily the Day of Decision is a time appointed. 17 The Day the Horn is blown and you will come forth in multitudes 18 and when the sky shall be opened up and will become all doors; 19 And the mountains will be moved – they will therefore become like mirages. 20 Indeed, Gehenna (Hell) has become an ambush, 21 For the transgressors, a place of return, 22 Living therein for ages. 23 Finding neither sleep nor any thing to drink 24 except boiling water and pus 25 A fitting recompense (for them). 26 For that they used not to fear any account (for their deeds), 27 And rejected Our signs as lies. 28 And everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 (They will be told), "Suffer, We shall only increase the torment for you". 30
