The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ What do they quarrel about? 1 Of the mighty Announcement, 2 whereon they are at variance. 3 Nay! they shall soon come to know 4 Again, by no means! anon they shall know. 5 Have We not made the earth an expanse. 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 And We made your sleep to be rest (to you), 9 and the night as a cover, 10 and made the day [a symbol of] life. 11 And constructed above you seven strong [heavens] 12 and placed in them a blazing lamp 13 And We have sent down from the rain-clouds water plenteous. 14 so that We may thereby bring forth grain and vegetation, 15 And gardens thick with trees. 16 Verily the Day of Decision is a time appointed. 17 On that day the trumpet will be sounded and you will come (to Us) in huge groups. 18 and when the sky shall be opened up and will become all doors; 19 And the mountains are removed and will be [but] a mirage. 20 Surely hell lies in wait, 21 for the insolent a resort, 22 where they shall remain for ages, 23 They will not taste therein [any] coolness or drink 24 Except boiling water and benumbing cold: 25 as a fitting recompense for their deeds. 26 They indeed hoped not for a reckoning, 27 and they rejected outright Our signs; 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 'Taste! We shall not increase you except in punishment' 30
