The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 About the great news - 2 About which they differ? 3 Indeed they will come to know soon; 4 They will indeed come to know soon. 5 HAVE WE NOT made the earth a resting-place [for you,] 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 made sleep for you to rest, 9 And made the night a cover. 10 and We made the day for a livelihood. 11 And We made above you seven strong ones, 12 and We appointed a blazing lamp 13 From the rain clouds We send waters pouring down in abundance, 14 In order to produce grain and plants with it. 15 and thick gardens grow? 16 Surely the Day of Judgement has an appointed time; 17 the Day when the trumpet [of resurrection] is sounded and you all come forward in multitudes; 18 And the heaven shall be opened so that it shall be all openings, 19 And the mountains shall vanish, as if they were a mirage. 20 Indeed, Gehenna (Hell) has become an ambush, 21 The rebels' abode, 22 therein to tarry for ages, 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink. 24 Save boiling water and a paralysing cold: 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 for they never expected to be called to account, 27 But they (impudently) treated Our Signs as false. 28 Everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 'Taste! We shall not increase you except in punishment' 30
