The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ Concerning what are they disputing? 1 Of the mighty Announcement, 2 About which they have been differing? 3 But they will soon come to know. 4 Yes, indeed, before long they will learn all about it. 5 Have We not made the earth as a place to rest 6 And the high hills bulwarks? 7 And We have created you in pairs (male and female, tall and short, good and bad, etc.). 8 and We made your sleep a rest, 9 And made the night as a covering, 10 And have made the day for livelihood. 11 And constructed above you seven strong [heavens] 12 And have appointed a dazzling lamp, 13 And sent down, from the rain clouds, pouring water 14 That We may bring forth thereby grain and vegetation 15 And gardens of entwined growth. 16 Indeed the Day of Decision is a time fixed. 17 The day when the Trumpet will be blown – you will therefore come forth in multitudes. 18 and when the skies are opened and become [as wide-flung] gates; 19 And the hills are set in motion and become as a mirage. 20 Behold, Gehenna has become an ambush, 21 For the transgressors, a place of return, 22 They will tarry therein for ages. 23 Neither coolness shall they taste therein nor any [thirst-quenching] drink 24 Except scalding water and [foul] purulence - 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 For indeed they did not look forward to any reckoning, 27 And they belied Our revelations with strong belying. 28 And We have recorded everything in a book, 29 'Taste! We shall not increase you except in punishment' 30
