The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ What are they questioning each other about? 1 They quarrel about the great news 2 About which they cannot agree. 3 Nay! they shall soon come to know 4 Verily, verily they shall soon (come to) know! 5 Have We not made the earth an expanse. 6 And the mountains as projections (thereon)? 7 And We have created you in pairs; 8 And have appointed your sleep for repose, 9 And made the night as clothing 10 And made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We have builded over you seven strong heavens. 12 And have made (therein) a shinning lamp (sun). 13 From the rain clouds We send waters pouring down in abundance, 14 so that We may thereby bring forth grain and vegetation, 15 And gardens dense and luxuriant. 16 Surely, the Day of Judgement has an appointed time. 17 On that day the trumpet will be sounded and you will come (to Us) in huge groups. 18 and when the sky shall be opened up and will become all doors; 19 The mountains will be driven away and become like mirages. 20 Behold, Gehenna has become an ambush, 21 A place of resort for the inordinate, 22 there, they shall live for ages, 23 Therein taste they neither coolness nor (any) drink 24 Except boiling water and benumbing cold: 25 Recompense fitted! 26 They indeed hoped not for a reckoning, 27 and roundly denied Our Signs as false. 28 And We have kept recorded everything in a Book, accounted for. 29 (They will be told), "Suffer, We shall only increase the torment for you". 30

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
